The JKUAT Library in collaboration with Springer Publisher will be holding a workshop on publishing as follows:
Title: Publishing Scientific Research

• How to choose the right journal to submit your work to
• What can you do to increase visibility of your work once it is published
• Referencing existing work: what is allowed and what is not
• What is an impact factor
• What is peer review and how to deal with it
• What exactly is Open Access
• What are the steps in publishing a book
Target Audience
• Academic staff
• Board of Postgraduate Studies
• Postgraduate students
Chairmen of Departments are requested to ensure that their departments are represented.

Science Direct is a leading full-text scientific database offering science, medical and technical (STM) journal articles and book chapters from more than 2,500 peer-reviewed electronic journals. ScienceDirect’s extensive and unique full text database covers authoritative titles from the core scientific literature like the Lancet. The Lancet is the world’s leading general medical journal and specialty journals in Oncology, Neurology and Infectious Diseases.

Once you login to the AGORA database, search by publisher and select Elsevier Publisher. This allows you access to ScienceDirect content.

The objectives of the training are to:
• Create awareness of JKUAT Library online services
• Create awareness of available electronic information resources
• Training on information search skills of electronic journals
• Introduce users to Ez proxy (off campus access to electronic resources) so they can make use of the journals off campus
• Introduction on publishing
The training will equip you for accessing journals for your thesis, research writing and assignments. You are all welcome

The program is as follows:
Kisii Campus– 18th & 19th April 2013
Kitale Campus-20th & 21st April 2013
Target Group: Postgraduate students and members of staff
