JKUAT students are driving this year’s global open access week activities. They did us proud by entering this year’s open access week competition http://goo.gl/imnrc and emerging among the top 10 strong applicants. Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology won a grant in this competition in 2010, http://goo.gl/GiVxN and will be building upon their previous work by introducing researchers and students to Open Access (OA) resources.
This year’s global Open Access Week will take place all over the world between 24th and 30th October 2011. This is an event that promotes Open Access as a new norm in scholarship and research. Open Access (OA) has the potential to maximize research investments, increase the exposure and use of published research, facilitate the ability to conduct research across available literature, and enhance the overall advancement of scholarship.
Some of the activities they are organizing are:
• Training workshop to be held at the library ICT lab on the 26th October 2011
• open forum at the graduation pavilion where students will show case their work to the public
• The climax of the week will be a beauty pageant to be held at the graduation pavilion to crown this year’s Mr. and Miss Open Access
You can participate by signing up on www.openaccessweek.org to chat and post your messages on open week.
