The AFRICA–ai–JAPAN Project has advanced research support to Pan African University Institute for Basic Sciences Technology and Innovation (PAUSTI) students. The fund is open to all the students and aims to give the young African scientists a head start during the initial stages of their research work. This year, the seed fund will benefit a record benefit over 120 students drawn from all programmes offered at the research hub at both Masters and PhD levels.
During the seminar held on 28th November, 2018 at the iPIC Seminar Hall, students were informed of the timelines for applying for the fund, financial accounting upon award, as well as the items covered by the fund by the Project Coordinator Ms. Sachiko Oda.
On his part, the Project Accountant, Mr. Eric G. Njuguna, inducted students on the accounting procedures to follow when accounting for the given fund and clarified on the specific items to buy. He went ahead to elucidate the importance of the induction which was particularly useful to students who are not grounded in prudential financial management due to their science backgrounds.
Besides the seed fund, the project holds special seminars towards African Innovation to all the PAUSTI students, JKUAT staff and students through which PAUSTI students get to learn about research and innovation ethos ahead of their final research work. These seminars are planned to start in the first quarter of 2019.
