Dr. Francis Namu Njoka, First PhD Alumni from E-JUST

Dr. Francis Namu Njoka from the Institute of Energy and Environmental Technology (IEET) in JKUAT came back to his workplace at the end of March 2019, with a PhD degree in Energy Resource Engineering from Egypt-Japan University of Science and Technology (E-JUST). E-JUST is a research university which is supported by JICA, established through a bilateral agreement between the Egyptian government and Japanese government in May 2009. His long-term training was supported by JICA.

When Dr. Njoka started his studies in E-JUST in the spring of 2016, he was amongst the first international students comprised of only two PhD candidate from JKUAT, and two MSc student from Nigeria and Tanzania. Currently the international students have risen to Twenty (20).He however explained the difficulty in adjusting to the new Egyptian culture then which he eventually got accustomed to.

During his three years study period in E-JUST, he had an opportunity to study in Tokyo Institute of Technology in Japan for 7 months, from April to October 2018, where he was exposed to another different culture. Supportive professors from Japan and E-JUST enabled him to complete his PhD degree and he is fully back in JKUAT to fulfill his future goals.

He will play an important role in JKUAT to create linkages between JKUAT and universities in Egypt and Japan where he established strong connections.
